The patchwork

Fur is a natural material and so never completely even. In patchwork that is exactly what shows to advantage: the pieces meet and together form a pattern. If you want a smooth, uniform surface, you are better off choosing something else. If you want to see the pattern, lay the throw fully open: folded, you only see part of it. At this size it lies generously over the seat of a sofa or the foot of a bed.

Where it lies

Over a sofa, over the foot of a bed or over the back of an armchair. Fur wears in places where there is a lot of rubbing, and in patchwork you see that first at the seams. So put it where it is seen and used now and then, rather than as a throw to curl up under every evening.

On the wall

It can be done, and the volume works well there. Do not stretch it tight: under tension the seams pull open, and in patchwork the seams are the most vulnerable part. Hang it by the top edge and let the rest fall freely.

Care

Fur needs gentle treatment. Shaking it out regularly and brushing it carefully in the direction of the hair keeps it looking good. Avoid water, heat and the washing machine, and leave thorough cleaning to a specialist. Store the throw airy and never in plastic, because fur needs air.
