Winter by the sea feels different: the wind is sharper, the light fades early and indoors you want extra warmth. A cosy interior does not need a big makeover. With layered textiles, warm light at different heights and a few soft places to sit, any room becomes somewhere you love coming back to after a walk on the beach. Start with layered textiles
Warmth starts with touch. Drape a throw over the arm of the sofa, a hide over a chair and a few woollen cushions in the corner. Work with two or three materials at once, such as wool, a hide and something with a soft texture. The room gains depth without looking busy.
Throws

Hides

Cushions

Warm light at different heights
In winter the lights go on early. One bright ceiling light makes a room feel cold, three or four soft light sources at different heights make it warm. Think of a floor lamp next to the sofa, a table lamp on a sideboard and candlelight on the table.
