Big enough, and for what exactly

With 55 by 45 cm and a depth of 25 cm there is room for clothes, a wash bag, shoes and a book for a few days away. That depth makes the bag usable rather than just big: a flat bag of the same width and height looks equally roomy, but shoes and a wash bag have thickness. The bag can also go as hand luggage on a plane; do check the permitted sizes of your airline before you leave.

Why the layout counts

A big bag without a layout becomes one deep pit in which everything sinks to the bottom. The layout inside keeps things separate, so on arrival you do not have to unpack everything to find your wash bag. The zip pocket at the back is for what you need on the way: passport, keys, smartphone.

The strap

Care

Wipe the bag with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry. On the way, preferably put it on a bench rather than on the floor, because the underside wears first. Store it stuffed with paper, so it keeps its shape.
