XL ceramic vase All Peppers with red peppers, handwork

This large ceramic vase, the XL vase All Peppers, is covered all over with red peppers that look almost real. The spicy red colour makes it a piece that needs no flowers or plants to stand out. With a diameter of 28 centimetres and a height of 36 centimetres it fills a table or sideboard on its own.

Why it needs no flowers

Some vases are the subject themselves, and then a bouquet becomes competition rather than an addition. This is one of them: the shape and the colour already carry the table. Because the vase is watertight, you can still put real or silk flowers in it. Stick to greenery or a few loose branches, rather than a full bouquet.

The size

Twenty-eight by thirty-six centimetres is sizeable. On a dining table for four it is the centrepiece and you cannot see over it; on a long table you can. On a sideboard, a windowsill or a kitchen island it has its own surface and works best. Measure the spot before you choose it, because this size surprises.

Handwork

The vase is true handwork. Small details can therefore differ between vases, and that belongs to a piece made by hand. It is exactly what sets it apart, unlike a factory vase.

Styling

Red is a bold colour. Put the vase against a calm background: a white or sand-coloured wall, a wooden table, linen. In a kitchen or dining area where people love to cook, it is a playful wink. Next to other strong colours or busy prints it quickly becomes too much.

Care

Dust with a soft cloth, and with a small brush between the peppers. After use with real flowers, rinse the inside with lukewarm water. Do not use scouring powder. Lift the vase by the base with two hands and never by the peppers.
