Scandinavian reindeer hide, premium quality

A Scandinavian reindeer hide, also called reindeer skin, is a real mood-setter for any interior. At the same time it is first and foremost a decorative showpiece: you lay it or hang it to look at, not to walk or sit on. There is a clear reason for that, and it lies in the make-up of the fur.

Two kinds of hair

A Scandinavian reindeer skin has two kinds of hair: an undercoat and an outer coat. The undercoat consists of soft down hairs. The outer coat is covered with hollow guard hairs filled with air. Those guard hairs are a little stiffer, and so they can break as soon as weight is put on them. Walking or sitting on the hide is therefore not advisable.

Where to lay or hang it

Choose a spot on the floor where there is little foot traffic, for example next to a bed on the wall side, in a corner by a reading chair or in front of a cabinet that is rarely opened. You can also hang the reindeer skin on the wall. There it carries no load and you see the hide as a whole, above a sideboard or a sofa.
