Spitfire aeroplane model, large, with stand

This large Spitfire aeroplane model is a metal desk model, inspired by the British Supermarine Spitfire fighter that went into production in 1938. It comes with an aluminium stand with plaque and has details you would not immediately expect in a decorative piece.

Dimensions and material

• Length 60.5 cm
• Width 75.5 cm
• Height 17 cm
• Metal, with an aluminium stand with plaque

What moves

• Retractable main wheels
• Sliding cockpit canopy
• Working tail rudder

These details change how you handle the model: you do not just put it down, you pose it. Wheels in or out, canopy open or closed, the rudder to the left or right. With the wheels up the aircraft looks as if it is hanging in the air; with the wheels down it stands ready on the ground.

The aircraft

The Spitfire was introduced in 1936 as a high-performance, single-seat, short-range aircraft. Pilots loved it, and the legendary aircraft still has an iconic status. That story also makes the model a lovely gift for anyone who loves aviation or history.

Where it goes

It is a beautiful piece for your desk, but it looks just as good as an accessory on a sideboard, a cabinet or a table. At 75.5 cm wide it does need space: leave some room around it and keep it out of a walkway.

Care

Dust with a soft, dry cloth or brush, also around the cockpit and the wheels. Remove fingerprints with a slightly damp cloth and rub dry. Do not use abrasive products. Move the parts gently and do not force them.

The aluminium stand with plaque is part of the model and not a separate accessory. That way the aircraft has its own place straight away, and you do not have to look for anything to display it well.
